Traditional Portraits and DAAs part of Trad Art day 2007, I've been given/asked for the task of a news item on Portraits.Traditional Portraits and DA by Jumprabbit
Without giving you all an art history lesson, the art of portrait making is generally considered one of the most difficult, and has often found itself as part of the cutting edge of any new school or movement in the art world.
While most of the art I'm featuring here is quite figurative and realistic, there exist truly effective examples of portraits across all styles (take Picasso just for one). As a volunteer for the NEWS TEAM for Traditional Art Day- one of my tasks was to compile an article, highlighting Traditional Figure art on DA. I've decided to keep it concise, and to compile a thumbnail "extravagaaaaaaaanza!" of a number of works which particularly caught my eye for this feature. Bare in mind, there are SO many more BRILLIANT artists who would more than deserve a feature- I wish I had more time to show them all!
From the refined, the realistic, to the gestural and the grotesque, there is surely something within the figurative arts to appeal to everyone.
Please, be sure to support these and the numerous other traditonal figure artists on DA.
And a special thank you to :iconsbaraci: and :iconstigmatattoo: for their tireless effort in pushing for this day, and for everyone else involved in making this day possible.
Highlights of my traditional featuresFor a while, one of my hobbies (when I had no job and no bills to pay) was compiling thumb-packed journals from the traditional categories on dA.Highlights of my traditional features by Duffzilla
So, this news article, to partake in the TRADITIONAL DAY celebrations is some selections from those journals.
